International relief efforts mean that there have been very few new Ebola cases reported in the last month, leading some to believe that Liberia will be declared Ebola-free by June. However, Liberians continue dying at a startling rate from water-borne diseases. Eight children have died in a single village from cholera in the past several months, and hundreds die across the country each week from this and other illnesses caused by contaminated drinking water. To stop these needless deaths, The Last Well (TLW) is intensifying its efforts to bring clean water and the Gospel to all Liberians by 2020.
“Just because the Ebola outbreak looks to be contained doesn’t mean we can stop paying attention to Liberia,” said TLW founder Dr. Todd Phillips. “People are dying from cholera, botulism, dysentery, typhoid and other diseases that can only be stopped by bringing clean water to the entire nation. We have a plan in place to reach every Liberian with clean water in the next 70 months. We just need the donations to do it.”
TLW hopes to reach over 200,000 Liberians through more than 400 new water projects this year, but can only do so if it reaches its funding goal. Just $ 20 gives one Liberian the gift of clean water for life. $ 3,000 pays for a new well, which provides up to 600 Liberians with disease-free water. Anyone wanting to give the gift of clean water can donate via TLW’s website at thelastwell.org/give. Those who prefer to send a check can do so to:
